Born in Haarlem and raised in the Alkmaar region. In the late 1980s, she trained as a designer at the Graphic School of Amsterdam. Since 1990, she has lived in the dune village of Schoorl. She has her studio in Alkmaar.
As a visual artist, her senses are always on edge. Her inspiration comes from the world around her and her subjects can therefore be very diverse. People inspire Nanette and painting a portrait is a fascinating process for her. Every person is unique. But what makes the person who they are. She is constantly searching for the deeper layers of her subject and each of her portraits shows emotion and the sobriety of her palette. In oil paint, she usually works from thin to thick paint in which the palette knife is also frequently used. Her smooth impressionistic touch and warm use of colour are always characteristic.
Exploring and renewing makes painting fascinating for her. She experiences the feeling of being completely absorbed in a work as 'yoga with a brush'. Above all, she wants to make 'Animated Art', art that is steeped in life. This can and may have light and dark sides. This can be seen in her series of works 'A Touch of Gold' but also in her latest series with the theme 'Elements'.
In January 2021, she painted the canvas 'Girl of the Future', commissioned by the Municipality of Bergen. An atmospheric work of a girl pedalling her little bike with training wheels confidently and fearlessly, bravely facing her future. A beautiful symbolism for life that just goes on even after a sombre corona period. After a public vote, the canvas will soon get its final spot in the entrance of the -rebuilt after a devastating fire and reopened in 2022- Sports Centre the Beeck.
In May 2021, Nanette participated in the popular television programme "Stars on the Screen". In that episode, the model was Philip Freriks. The programme aired 1 May 2021 on NPO2.
